We often associate the term “health” with physical or psychological vitality. In the health-care field, advocates advise consuming a large amount of fresh fruits and vegetables, exercising frequently and reducing stress. But a less-discussed topic is financial health. How healthy are the ways in which we interact with, think about, invest, earn, give and spend money? Are we living in a state of trust, abundance and generosity or are we consumed by anxiety and stress around our finances? Do we feel continually supported and plentiful when it comes to money, or are we dreading the day when the “financial ball” might drop? The truth is, many people are living in a state of poor financial health and don’t realize it. Because money is often a taboo subject, many are silently and unknowingly supporting unhealthy financial beliefs while reinforcing bad habits promoted by culture, the media and those around us.
