WHY HOP ON THIS LEARNING TRAIN?

There is a tremendous gap in the skills students learn in high school and what they need to be successful in everyday life. That gap combined with new stressors of an enhanced digital age has led to some alarming local and national trends. These trends include drastically increased levels of stress, increased depressive symptoms and suicide-related outcomes, reductions in sleep, increased debt, reductions in social skills, and so much more.

Our organization aims to fill the gap by teaching high school and college aged students fundamental life skills in a way that addresses these issues. We believe that in order for an individual to be successful and create a meaningful impact on the world, there must be focus and development in the following areas:

PURPOSE

One must understand their purpose and passionately pursue that purpose. Turns out, doing what we love makes us happy!

LIFE-SKILLS

Having the requisite knowledge to pursue one's purpose or professional interest does not equate to success or happiness in that pursuit. There is so much more to life that impacts our likelihood of success. Knowing the skills to care for yourself, your family, your finances, and your community all play a role in being successful & happy.

HEALTH

Maintaining a healthy body is key to long lasting sustainable success. It impacts every area of our life.

RELATIONSHIPS

We can go fast by ourselves, but we go further with each other. Having healthy, authentic relationships present new opportunities for us to build powerful connections that amplify our growth.

SELF-GUIDED

Students have busy lives, this is why curriculum is initially delivered at home on students own time. Curriculum consists of video guides, lectures, reference articles, and additional reading assignments. Students are asked to take their own notes and document their own thoughts on the lessons learned.

EXPERIENTIAL

We learn best by doing so all classes and programs are designed for students to spend hands on time developing, practicing, and implementing lessons learned. This could range from setting up bank or retirement accounts, practicing movement and mindfulness exercises, creating a business, conducting mock interviews, practicing culinary skills, going on a grocery shopping trip, etc.

SOCIAL LEARNING

During “class” students share their key takeaways from the curriculum and how it applies to them. This allows for learning to occur through shared experience while accelerating the learning process and building communication skills for participants

FEEDBACK

As a data driven organization, we believe in the power of feedback cycles to drive growth. All classes and programs have built in peer and facilitator feedback loops. This set container for constructive feedback focuses on individual and group performance to enhance collaboration and further develop healthy peer to peer communication.
